Treat these as starting points. Rockstar keeps adding GTA Online updates, so the installed game grows over the years, even if you only play offline. Keep an extra 15 to 20 GB of free space on top of the listed figure so patches can unpack without errors.
PC File Size: Enhanced vs Legacy
Buying GTA 5 on PC (Rockstar Games Launcher, Steam or Epic Games Store) gives you two separate editions, and each needs its own storage.
- Enhanced edition: 105 GB. Released in March 2025, it adds ray-traced shadows and reflections, DLSS and FSR support and much faster loading. Rockstar says a solid-state drive is required, and a DirectStorage-compatible drive is recommended. A hard disk is not supported.
- Legacy edition: 125 GB. The original 2015 PC release, kept for older computers. It takes more room, but it runs on a regular hard drive and has far lower hardware needs.
If you install both editions, you need room for both, around 230 GB in total.
Download size vs installed space: store files arrive compressed and are unpacked during setup, so the game needs more disk space once it’s installed. Go by the storage figure on the store page, not the progress counter.
Console Storage on PS5 and Xbox
The PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of GTA V launched on 15 March 2022. At launch, the PS5 version needed 86.84 GB and the Xbox Series X|S version needed 87.81 GB. Updates have changed these numbers since, so check Settings → Storage on your console for the exact figure.
On a standard 825 GB PS5, that is a large slice of the usable space. If you play several large games, an expansion storage drive saves you from deleting and re-installing the game every time a new update arrives.

Storage is only half the picture. These are the official minimum requirements and recommended specs published by Rockstar.
Enhanced edition
- Minimum: Windows 10 (64-bit), Intel Core i7-4770 or AMD FX-9590, 8 GB RAM, GTX 1630 or Radeon RX 6400 with 4 GB video RAM, 105 GB on a solid-state drive.
- Recommended: Windows 11, Intel Core i5-9600K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600, 16 GB dual-channel RAM, RTX 3060 or Radeon RX 6600 XT (8 GB), 105 GB on a DirectStorage-compatible drive.
Legacy edition
- Minimum: 64-bit OS, Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 or AMD Phenom 9850, 4 GB RAM, NVIDIA 9800 GT or AMD HD 4870 (1 GB), 125 GB.
- Recommended: Intel Core i5-3470 or AMD FX-8350, 8 GB RAM, GTX 660 or AMD HD 7870 (2 GB), 125 GB.
Both editions of GTA 5 need a Rockstar Games account and an internet connection for activation. If your PC sits near the Legacy minimum, choose Legacy; anything with a GTX 1630-class card or better and a solid-state drive can run Enhanced.
Playing on Android Phones
There is no official build for phones, so there is no official mobile figure either. Files on random sites that claim to be the full game at a file size of 1–2 GB cannot be the real thing, because the official game is more than 85 GB on every platform. Those files are usually fake installers, survey traps or malware.
If you own GTA 5 on PC or PS5, you can still play it on your phone legally by streaming it from your own machine with the official Steam Link or PS Remote Play apps from the Google Play Store. The game stays on your PC or console, so the phone only needs room for the small streaming app and good Wi-Fi.
How Long Does the Download Take in India?
For a 105 GB download, it depends on your plan. Rough figures, before any slowdowns:
- 50 Mbps broadband: about 4 to 5 hours
- 100 Mbps broadband: about 2 to 3 hours
- 300 Mbps fibre: under an hour
Daily mobile data packs won’t cover a GTA install this large, so use home broadband or Wi-Fi. Many fibre plans in India have a monthly fair-usage limit, so check yours before starting.
A few ways to save storage and data:
- Pick one GTA edition. Installing only Enhanced or only Legacy saves 105–125 GB.
- Install on a solid-state drive. It is required for Enhanced, and it makes loading much faster on Legacy too.
- Pause rather than cancel. PC launchers and consoles can resume a paused install.
- Avoid repacks and “compressed” versions. They are pirated, often bundled with malware, and can get your Rockstar account banned from GTA Online.
